PULL OUT / FIXING TESTING

The process of ensuring that construction fixings are fit for purpose requires a suitable testing regime to be in place to assess the design of post-installed fixings. This assessment is imperative to ensure that such fixings are safe, efficient and cost-effective. Moreover, there may also be a requirement to ensure that post-installed fixings are performing as intended when initially installed or indeed to confirm that they are able to withstand new loads.

Empirical undertake proof loading and testing of various construction anchors and fixings to ascertain their suitability and to confirm that the substrate material is able to withstand the design loadings. These tests can be undertaken on trial fixings that are temporarily installed or existing fixings to assess serviceability and suitability. Empirical commonly use Hydrajaws fixing testers for routine testing though can design a unique test set up for a specific test. We also offer shear testing of fixings where required. All testing undertaken is in accordance with the requirements contained within BS 8539.

Bond or adhesion testing is a further service available. Examples of this include bond/adhesion testing to bridge deck waterproofing, car park coatings, render/paint coatings and screed bond testing. Bond/adhesion testing is undertaken in accordance with the approved standards using Hydrajaws testing equipment to determine the adhesion strength of various construction materials in accordance with BS EN ISO 4624.

Pull out tests can also be used for the testing of concrete strength using near surface tests. Though such testing is not typically conducted as an industry standard, should a client require, Empirical can provide this service and conduct testing in accordance with BS 1882-207.

At Empirical, our experienced engineers undertake all of the aforementioned testing methods in accordance with the specified standards. However not all testing methods are straightforward and in some instances a unique test method may be adopted/implemented by Empirical to ensure the clients requirements are met.
