PAINT SURVEYS
Empirical can provide a suite of paint surveys and laboratory tests to metallic elements of structures. Prior to removal or refurbishment of existing paint systems Empirical can provide the following services:
Toxic metal analysis - This involves the removal of samples for analysis of toxic metals such as lead which are then tested by our approved UKAS accredited laboratory.
Pull off tests - This test is carried out to understand the adhesion of the existing paint system to the substrate. A specific diameter of the coating is pulled away from its substrate and the measured pulled force provides the strength of adhesion.
Dry film thickness – This testing method provides a non-destructive solution for determining the thickness and conformity of paint systems.
Cross hatch testing – This test assesses the adhesion and resistance to separation of coatings from substrates. The test involves equal spacing blades with two cuts made perpendicular to one another. Debris paint is removed through tape and the results are classified to the chart within BS EN ISO 2409.
Empirical can offer ICORR / NACE Level 2 inspectors through our approved partners enabling clients to instruct a single company to undertake the full service and guide them accordingly.
